The intro from 2001 was written by Richard Strauss not John Williams. It’s called ‘Also sprach Zarathustra’, unless that’s not the piece you were talking about.

RACHMANINOFF FUCK YEAH! I been waiting for him to pop up in these videos! The best composer for me!

Lol is not i dont have taste for classical…but seem like i rather listen to composer from earlier like 1600-1700 lol

Alinutza97 on 26 February, 2009 at 1:13 pm #

great job. but aaron copland is not a classic. in 1990 could be classicism.

John Williams wrote a LOT of good music for movies. Thing is he ripped guys like Gustav Holst off too. Listen to Star Wars after listening to Mars.

His music isn’t “classic” for the most part. Sure, 2001 A Space Odyssey had that trumpet intro you can never forget, but thats just playing the 1st, 5th, 1st, 3rd, 5th, then flat 5th, all ascending save the last one. Its almost exactly a lip slur. You just put the 2nd valve down for the last note and drop a half-step.

Hi ..where’s Prof. Kevin? just in case you’re here somewhere: came across the site of Mark Klatt. Seems to be a crazy German guy, but this really is really composition on nowadays cutting edge. It’s something new…maybe you can tell me whether you hear some rachmaninoff bases out. How is it possible to evoke such strong images in such a direct way? hope to hear from you soon. X

nhcutie08,
i don’t believe John Williams has to be dead to be an appreciated composer. granted he scores movie soundtracks but in the classical genre. just wanted to know your thoughts on Andrew Lloyd Webber.

nhcutie08 on 14 March, 2009 at 12:05 pm #

john williams didnt write any classical music
the guys still alive
i dont think his movie music counts as classical
