Currently I listen to a lot of Christian rock music (Skillet, Kutless, Sanctus Real, etc.), but I want to get a little “sophisticated” and listen to some classical music. I want to garner a little more knowledge about music theory. If you could give me some names of composers that rock music fans usually like, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Fillip If you go on Youtube there are some different tunes played with the harmonica in classical music. I was wondering if this can be done with any harmonica or do certain types lend themselves better to certain types of music?
Thanks.Home Theater Systems

Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, in fact, any Russian composer as they are all really deep. And Wagner if you really must!

Well, first off if you want rock and classical combo I’d check out “Maniheim Steamroller”
If you want a comprehensive search on composers and classical music, do a search on “classical composer archive”
As for music theory, there are many types of “classical” music. Light and sweet, hard and heavy, then you have sonatas, sonatinas, and styles of that sort.
Hope this helps.

Wagner, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky…
The Flight of the Valkyries, Beethoven’s Symphony V, and the 1812 Overture are kinda metal.

Hi,Jeremy H.
At first i suggest Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi from the Baroque Era(Additional ones:Händel,Correlli,Tartini and D.Scarlatti).
From the Classical Period i recommend at first Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart(The film AMADEUS is about him and you can hear good music of Mozart in the film).Others from that Time:Joseph Haydn(In 2009 by the way,we have a great Haydn year;it’s 200 Years ago he died),Franz
Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven(Enjoy his great Symphonies,3,5,6,
7 and No.9 the most famous of his Symphonies).
From the Romantic Period there are so many good ones that it’s very
difficult to pick out someone,but this is a short list of my favored ones:
Niccolo Paganini(The great Violinist),Frederic Chopin and Franz Liszt,
(The Great Pianist’s of that time),Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy,Robert
Schumann and Johannes Brahms(Their Symphonies and symphonic
works are also world-famous/You should listen them).
The music of the Late Romantic composers and Impressionists,
Expressionists,Neo Classicism etc…to our Time Classical Music,is at
the beginning,maybe,a little bit to much to your ears.So,therefore i stop
my list here and hope you enjoy the suggestions i made.Bets wishes
from Heidelberg/Germany.Happy new year to you.

As a Christian rock fan, you may like J. S. Bach (named as “the Fifth Evangelist” and also a large influence on early rock music). Another musician who is very fresh is Vivaldi. Mozart is also very popular among rockers, especially those who actually compose music, and Beethoven’s energetic power must have been hard-rock like for his contemporaries. I’m also very much into Russian composers, Tchaikovsky above all of them, but also Rachmaninov, Prokofiev and Shostakovich.

I guarantee a 100% that you are gonna LOVE Alberto Ginastera’s music!!!!! That’s some mad catchy argentinean classical music!!!!!
Norman Dello Joio and Robert Muczinski are amazing too!
Bartok, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky
and finally Keith Emerson’s piano concerto! ( a concerto that uses some Ginastera, rock and roll, pop, and metal)!!!!!

As a rock fan I find so called “Christian rock” deeply offensive.
It goes against everything rock music represents and holds dear.
Christianity is the very antithesis of rock and never the twain should meet.
It is a perversion and nothing more.
I’m not meaning to be harsh here.
I just hope that your assessment of yourself as “a fan of rock music” is an accurate one.
In which scenario I would suggest these composers:
Ludwig Van Beethoven {esp.Symphonies & Overtures}
Gustav Mahler {Symphonies}
Richard Wagner {few orchestral works rather truly epic music dramas}
Igor Stravinsky {esp.’Le Sacre du Printemps’}
Dimitri Shostakovich {esp.String Quartets}
Of course there is nothing wrong at all with classical works containing religious ideas,after all so much of it began as liturgical music.
But from the composers I mention I can’t think of a finer example than Mahlers sublime 2nd Symphony.
Definitely recommended.
